Richard Buxton

I started painting as a teenager in the 1960s. I was inspired by Picasso, Vermeer, Dali, de Kooning, Warhol and others. Also eastern art and culture; Japanese woodblock prints, Hokusai, Hiroshige, Chinese landscape painting and calligraphy and more.

I started visiting north Wales at this time, to the same house where I live now. I went to art college, first to Watford, then to Goldsmiths and the teaching I received at both places continues to inspire me.

Over the next thirty years, on and off,  I taught art, photography and craft, design and technology to all ages , from infants through to the elderly, including people with learning difficulties and severe learning difficulties.

A life long interest in light and colour, geometry and nature informs my work. These elements find expression in the diversity of my paintings.I sell much of my work in exhibitions and have pictures in private collections in various countries.
